Seven on Seven (7x7) 2024 edition on Artificial Intelligence Rhizome, New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York January 2024 Role: Producer and Co-Curator Founded in 2010, 7x7 brings together leading artists and tech luminaries into deep conversation and creative collaboration under one simple assignment: Make Something New. The outcomes of the collaborations (a sketch, a demo, a prototype) are presented at a public, experiential conference. 7x7 fosters experimental collaborations that explore timely issues at the intersection of art, technology, and society, and has played a significant role in shaping the landscape of art and tech collaboration of the past decade. The site of the creation of the first NFT by artist Kevin McCoy and technologist Anil Dash in 2014, 7x7 has catalyzed some of the earliest creative experimentations and critical engagements with machine learning, blockchain, and social media technologies. Past participants include Alex Chung (Giphy), American Artist, Ai Weiwei, Aza Raskin (Center for Humane Technology), David Karp (Tumblr), Hito Steyerl, Jonah Peretti (Buzzfeed), Martine Syms, Meredith Whittaker, Mike Krieger (Instagram), Miranda July, Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, Tabita Rezaire, Trevor McFedries (FWB), to name a few. I produced and co-curated the 2024 edition of 7x7 with Michael Connor, Rhizome's Co-Executive Director longtime Artistic Director. With a focus on AI, this edition drew together iconic pairings from across disciplines to consider how AI may alter our understanding of love, humor, and improvisation; biology, politics, and histories.
