Laurie Anderson and Hsin-Chien Huang: To the Moon Asia Debut at Art Basel Hong Kong, 2019 Role: Head of Global Partnerships, HTC VIVE Arts As the official VR Partner of Art Basel Hong Kong in 2019, HTC VIVE Arts presented the Asia premiere of To the Moon, a virtual reality artwork by the iconic avant-garde artist Laurie Anderson and new media artist Hsin-Chien Huang, commissioned by the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Denmark. For over 20 years, Laurie Anderson and Hsin-Chien Huang have collaborated on a wide range of multimedia projects. To the Moon is one of their most ambitious works to date. Inspired by Laurie Anderson’s experience as the first artist in residence at NASA, the two artists developed this work on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the moon landing in 2018. This 15-minute immersive experience transports viewers to the surface of the moon, where they embark on an otherworldly journey through zero gravity via virtual reality. Anderson's masterful music score intensifies the emotional impact, guiding the audience through the experience. With its unique vantage point, the work seeks to evoke a profound sense of care and love for planet Earth, our one and only home.
